Lindsay Close is a home improvement and extension project for a young family in the suburbs of London who wanted to create additional space for a family member to come and live with them.

The existing two-storey house was opened up at ground floor level to create a garden-facing kitchen and living space for family time. A single storey ‘granny annexe’ with its own entrance and garden was added to the side of the main house. 

While the extension was designed in the established architectural style of the area, its layout was carefully chosen to afford the client’s mother privacy and still provide opportunity for interaction with other members of the family. 

This successful collaboration between client and architect achieved planning at the first attempt and was delivered on time and on budget.
